Overall The 'Default content' is just a preset (default) configuration for the 'Publish Content'. Here you have almost all the options you need to configure in the 'Publish Content' (See 'Webpages and Sidebars > Publish Content' for more information), so you can save a preset configuration that will appear selected everytime you go to 'Publish Content' saving time so you dont have to re-select everything again.
